Read below our predictions for the 2025/2026 EFL League Two season.
1st
Kieran: Barnet
Up from National league, with over 100 points. They will want to continue as they were, with pretty much topping every stat last season. Granted, this is a bit of a stretch, but between the bottom of League Two and the top end of the National League I don't see too much difference in quality. I think Barnet were operating with a high end League Two side last year, and would have probably made the playoffs had they been playing in it. With a few decent additions, I think they could definitely have a chance of winning the league again.
Schoey: MK Dons
Massively underperformed under Lindsey last season. Now with a strong manager in Warne, I think not only will he get last seasons players playing well, the new additions have been ridiculous. Aaron Collins, Will Collar, Mendez-Laing and Hepburn-Murphy to name a few. If MK hit the ground running I think they could walk league 2 this season.
Will: MK Dons
Have invested in the squad massively. The players they have brought in are solid League one players they should walk the league. Question is if the manager can get them all playing together quickly enough.
2nd
Kieran: Bristol Rovers
Relegated last season but I think they have a strong squad for this level. I can see them surprising a few people with how good they are and finishing in the automatics.
Schoey: Chesterfield
Chesterfield have been in dreamland since Paul Cook was appointed. National league champions 23/24 season and finished inside the playoffs last season. With a solid back line and some exciting players brought in, what’s stopping them from keeping the dream going.
Will: Colchester
With the Cowley brothers in charge and signings they have made to highlight a one in Will Goodwin who I personally think will thrive here. Last season they were strong at the back but going forward was an issue If Goodwin can start strong, he could easily get 20+ goals.
3rd
Kieran: MK Dons
Probably the biggest spenders in the league, and with a manager in Paul Warne who is extremely experienced in getting teams promoted. On paper, a team that would normally run away with League Two and pretty much win it by March, but I think with the adjustment to Warne's style, and a strong league this year, it may be more of a struggle.
Schoey: Cambridge
Since being relegated Cambridge have bought in a few league 1 quality players. Including Mpanzu on a free from Luton, which is an unreal signing for any league 2 side. Championship manager Neil Harris should be securing automatics for Cambridge.
Will: Cambridge
Worse badge in the EFL? Neil Harris a decent manager that has kept most of the team that came down from League one baring a few. Really impressed with the signing of Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu has experience from all 4 English leagues. Dominic Ball comes in bringing a massive amount of experience from higher leagues. Cambridge is showing real intent of getting straight back up to League one and I think they go back clinching 3rd automatic place.
4th
Kieran: Chesterfield
Chesterfield are definitely one of the favourites, the only reason I don’t have them in the top 3 is literally a feeling nothing else. I thnk every season there is a surprise at each end of the table and I think Chesterfield could be the one this year, although if they did finish 4th I would definitely have them to go up through the playoffs.
Schoey: Bristol Rovers
Have brought in some quality players over the summer. Josh McEachran from Oxford and Ryan Howley from Coventry could make for a very solid league 2 midfield duo. Manager Darrell Clarke has promoted Rovers from league 2 before, and he’ll be looking to do that again.
Will: Chesterfield
Finished 7th last season this season. They have kept majority of the players that got them to 7th. I think they will improve again this year and push higher up into the play off places.
5th
Kieran: Cambridge
Relegated to League Two but with Neil Harris still in charge I see them as a force at this level. They also haven't lost too many from their squad either, I hope for a successful season for them to put last years misery out of their minds.
Schoey: Grimsby
Finished just outside the playoffs last season and have definitely strengthened their squad this summer. I think they’re in for an exciting season.
Will: Bristol Rovers
Relegated last season and will be looking to try and bounce back. Made a few positive signings with the likes of Josh McEachran and Jack Sparkes. One to watch out for Is Fabrizio Cavegn looks to be a promising striker.
6th
Kieran: Walsall
Last season was real heartbreak for Walsall, after leading for most of the season, and by a lot, they fell away at the most important time. However, if you were to look at the season as a whole, they were never expected to challenge at the top, so I don't see it as the horrendous failure some pin it as. This season I think it will be a bit more steady, with a play-off place at the end of it.
Schoey: Walsall
Finished 4th last season. Have lost a few solid players but have brought in some quality to, especially for league 2. I predict they’ll finish in the playoffs again.
Will: Salford
Karl Robinson in charge at an always improving Salford. Went from finishing 20th 23/24 season to 8th last season. I think this upward momentum will continue and they push into the play offs this season.
7th
Kieran: Gillingham
*It's about time Gillingham start challenging for me. They have one of the biggest budgets, and surely this season can finally make a push into the playoffs. *
Schoey: Salford
Lost out on playoffs by losing last game of the season. Well backed financially compared to other league 2 clubs. Should have another strong season and challenge for the top 7.
Will: Grimsby
They will pushing to get play offs again and have retained majority of the squad and have added wisely with Jamie Walker who helped Bradford to their promotion last season. Jayden Sweeney comes in as well from Leyton orient. Two smart signings for Grimsby. They are another team that could be 2-3 places higher come May, but I have them to just Squeeze it on the last day.
8th
Kieran: Notts County
Decent squad but I just don't see it as enough to really push into those play-off places. I see Notts County finishing anywhere from 8th down to 12th really.
Schoey: Swindon
Ian Holloway has started a serious rebuild at Swindon. Players will need to gel quickly as there is a lot of change, but I think Holloway will get them fighting for playoffs.
Will: Walsall
Thought they had the won the league at Christmas and went into free fall. Will have a slight hangover from last year and ultimately miss out on the play offs this season.
9th
Kieran: Wigan
Starting to invest on and off the pitch like a serious contender. Great to have them in the league and would love to see them have a strong season. Maybe not quite enough in them to challenge play-offs just yet, but a strong season anyway.
Schoey: Colchester
Haven’t lost any of their strongest players and have added to the squad. I expect a similar finishing position to last season. Could challenge for top 7.
Will: Barnet
Champions of the National league nearly scored 100 goals (97) last season. For them finishing top half table is off bases that the momentum carries on.
10th
Kieran: Colchester
A lot of hype around Colchester this year, but I'm gonna slightly stray away from that and have them as my team to surprise in the wrong way. Looking at the Colchester fans' reactions to some other predictions, I don't think they are actually expecting too much this season.
Schoey: Crawley
Relegated from league 1 last season. Manager Scott Lindsey left for mk dons in September last year, only to flop and be reappointed as Crawley manager in March. The team did play better under him but the situation was a bit of a mess. Also half their best players have been sold or released, so I may have predicted them to finish lower than others would think.
Will: Notts County
Will challenge for the play off places. Big loss of David McGoldrick who scored 17 last season, will need Jatta to step up again (scored 19 last season).
11th
Kieran: Salford
Could be 17th could be 3rd. With Robinson in charge as seen before with Oxford, it can either go amazingly well or disastrously bad, or even both throughout the season
Schoey: Fleetwood
Bought in Norwood and Ched Evan’s on free transfers, which will certainly add to there goal tally this season. But they have lost a couple of their best players. I expect a mid table finish.
Will: Crawley
Unlucky to go down last season but they just couldn't stop conceding (83) goals. This season is going to be a rebuilding year; they have had a clear out this summer and will be looking for some more quality signings to bring in.
12th
Kieran: Swindon
Don't see what the hype is about. Yes they have a decent enough squad... I could be wrong, but Holloway will lose the dressing room.
Schoey: Shrewsbury
Finished rock bottom of league 1 last season. Just 7 points managed from February onwards. Appleton is to put it bluntly, an awful manager. The loss of Shipley is a big one also, so I don’t expect to see them challenging for playoffs this season.
Will: Swindon
Don't think Ian Holloway lasts the season, just not a stable manager. Made some alright signings like Billy Bodin but not enough to get them into the play offs.
13th
Kieran: Crawley
With a fair amount of players remaining from their relegation season last year, I can't see them struggling at League Two level. I do feel however they won't be challenging considering their promotion season before was very unexpected, I can't see it happening the same way. A mid table finish for me.
Schoey: Barnet
Over 100 points to win the national league last season. I expect them to be very safe and finish around mid table.
Will: Bromley
Have kept most of the squad that finished 11th last season, one notable signing is Mitch Pinnock who brings a lot of experience with him. Looking like a mid-table team.
14th
Kieran: Harrogate
A lot of people have them to go down, but I see harrogate doing well this season. I think they have enough to stay up comfortably and really start to establish themselves at this level.
Schoey: Notts County
Lost to Wimbledon in the playoffs last season. Have brought in some decent players, but have lost arguably the best player in league 2 last season in McGoldrick. I can’t see them doing as well.
Will: Oldham
Play off winners coming up from the National league. Let a lot of players go but have been replaced them with League two quality players. Can see that they are trying to build on the team that got them promoted.
15th
Kieran: Fleetwood
Maybe a bit lower than their fans expectations, but I think a consolidation season for Fleetwood. Can see them maybe a few places higher than this, but still mid table.
Schoey: Crewe
Fell away from the playoffs toward the end of last season and haven’t had an exciting window. I predict a bottom half finish this season.
Will: Shrewsbury
Awful season finishing bottom of League one. Michael Appleton coming in March tried to save them but went very wrong, if they don't have a quick start to the season he could be the first manager out and Shrewsbury could be in trouble.
16th
Kieran: Grimsby
Another than will be hoping for a higher finish than expecting, I think Grimsby will be more looking over their shoulder than looking up this year.
Schoey: Bromley
One of the best strikers in the league in Michael Cheek. But no goal threat from anywhere else. If he were to get injured or doesn’t show up this season, Bromley could be in trouble.
Will: Fleetwood
I might get this one completely wrong, they could be up there challenging for play offs with the signings of Ched Evans and James Norwood there going to score goals but not sure if they last 90 minutes.
17th
Kieran: Shrewsbury
Shrewsbury have one of my favourite managers in charge in Michael Appleton, but as was seen with Oxford and Lincoln, his style is much more suited to a youthful team with room to grow. Shrewbsury do not have this and I fear they might be in trouble because of the clash of styles.
Schoey: Gillingham
Haven’t had an exciting transfer window but I don’t see Gillingham being in trouble this season. I think they’ll have a similar finish to last season.
Will: Gillingham
The biggest news for the Gills is Sam Vokes coming in bringing Premier League experience. If they can get him scoring, they might be a few places higher.
18th
Kieran: Crewe
A few seasons in the top half and even top 7, I fear the time maybe has come for Crewe to have a worrying season this year. I see them closer to the bottom than the play-offs.
Schoey: Tranmere
Could’ve been in trouble but bringing in experiences CM Richard Smallwood will really strengthen the middle of the park for them. I think they’ll be safe.
Will: Tranmere
Their 6th consecutive season in league 2 finishing 20th last season. The signings they have brought in look to be more defensive to try and sure up that back line and improve slightly on last year.
19th
Kieran: Bromley
An excellent season last year as their first season in the EFL, I think the hype may die down a bit this season and the second season hangover will kick in. I don’t think they will be in trouble, but more of a conolidation than anything.
Schoey: Harrogate
Finished 18th last season and leaked A LOT of goals. Could be fighting for survival this season.
Will: Crewe
Very Average season last year with a bad run of form to finish only picking up 1pt in the last 5. I don't think that form is going to change they won't go down this season.
20th
Kieran: Tranmere
With a sale of the club seemingly incoming, it's hard to predict which direction Tranmere will be going in this season. I think this ongoing saga may affect preparations and therefore can see them struggling.
Schoey: Oldham
Brought in some exciting/solid players and have definitely made their squad stronger. It won’t be easy but I think they’ll survived.
Will: Cheltenham
There is a just a bit of a decline going on at Cheltenham for the past few seasons I think that trend is going to carry on this season.
21st
Kieran: Accrington
I think Accrington fans will be hoping for survival, no matter the type of football, the way in which they achieve it, or anything else, survival is the main focus this year.
Schoey: Cheltenham
Lots of outgoings this summer, Could be in a relegation scrap if new players don’t gel quickly.
Will: Harrogate
Not 100% convinced they will stay up but comparted to the bottom two I think they will be out of the relegation zone.
22nd
Kieran: Barrow
One of the divisions lowest budgets but I can see them just sneaking survival this year.
Schoey: Barrow
Lost their two top goal scorers from last season, who only scored 11 goals between them. Tyler Walker could be a good addition but he’ll have to hit the ground running.
Will: Newport
Repeat of last year fighting relegation David Hughes in as the new manager might change their fortune but there going to be around the relegation battle for sure.
23rd
Kieran: Cheltenham
Cheltenham have been on a downward trajectory for a while now, and unfortunately I think this may be the year they drop out of the league.
Schoey: Accrington
Finished 21st last season. Haven’t brought in any experienced players. I think they’ll be in trouble again.
Will: Barrow
Will struggle this season lost a few of their better players from last season. When you look at the incomings 13 players have come in and its very much scatter gun approach, I don't think it’s going to be an easy year for them and ultimately fall to the National league.
24th
Kieran: Newport
Favourites for relegation, and unfortunately I think that might be justified. I can see them going down at the bottom of the league.
Schoey: Newport
1 win in their last 12 games last season which is pretty horrific. Not really strengthened the team this summer. I think they’ll be relegated.
Will: Accrington
Going to be a long season no real quality coming in, only signed two permanent signings from the National League North. That doesn't give me any faith they will stay up.
