Another Week Of Misery: TWITS Picks GW4

Our weekly round-up for Gameweek 3 is here. It was a week of heavy defeats, and we’ll be honest, it’s a very thin argument to call us “experts” based on our performances so far. Read below our review of last week and our picks for the Lower League Special GW4.

First we’ll have a look at how each of us got on in Gameweek 3.

Gameweek 3 Review

Kieran: 0 points

Picks
Liverpool 1-0 Arsenal (BIG BET) - Away (0pts)
QPR 3-1 Charlton - Draw (0pts)
Crewe 0-3 Swindon - Home (-3pts)
Bristol City 4-2 Hull - Home (3pts)
Exeter 3-0 Peterborough - Home (3pts)
Aston Villa 0-3 Crystal Palace - Home (-3pts)

Review

Well, very poor. The highest week I’ve had so far is 4 points, which is pretty shameful! This week I do have a few excuses though, how are Crewe and Villa losing 3-0 at home, especially Crewe who were top of the league and setting the standard in the league going into this match. Luckily, I had a few bankers come in in Bristol City and Exeter, showing the others how it should be done at home.

Schoey: 3 points

Picks
Liverpool 1-0 Arsenal (BIG BET) - Draw (0pts)
Stoke 0-1 West Brom - Away (0pts)
Crewe 0-3 Swindon - Home (-3pts)
Wolves 2-3 Everton - Away (4pts)
Blackpool 1-1 Bolton - Draw (5pts)
Nottingham Forest 0-3 West Ham - Home (-3pts)

Review

Last week was a bit of a shocker for me. No result in the big bet and -6 points in heavy defeats alone, thanks to Swindon and West Ham suddenly deciding they weren’t gonna be crap. My week was saved by Jack Grealish, and Bolton continuing their impressive run of draws! So only 3 points overall. I could really do with avoiding heavy defeats going forward, which will be easier said than done heading in to the dreaded lower league week!

Will: 0 points

Picks
Liverpool 1-0 Arsenal (BIG BET) - Draw (0pts)
Bristol City 4-2 Hull - Home (3pts)
Barnsley 3-1 Huddersfield - Away (0pts)
Exeter 3-0 Peterborough - Home (3pts)
Nottingham Forest 0-3 West Ham - Home (-3pts)
Crewe 0-3 Swindon - Home (-3pts)

2 out of 6 this week and a grand total of 0 points made after 2 games gave me -3 points. So, on the bright side it’s better than getting -10 like last week. I really don't get where West Ham pulled this result out of beating Nottingham Forest 3-0 at their place, unbelievable Jeff! Fair play, maybe they do have some life in them.

Gameweek 4 Picks

Kieran

Bromley vs Gillingham (BIG BET) - Home
3rd vs 1st and maybe I’m going a bit risky looking at the stats of the league, but I’m going with a gut feeling on Bromley and being at home praying that they can scrape a win and get me my first Big Bet points of the season. This horrible run of form for me can’t continue forever surely!

Bolton vs AFC Wimbledon – Home
Wimbledon may be the happier of the two sides with their start to the season, with Bolton always expecting a run for the promotion places. I think being at home in front of their fans there is going to be a lot of expectation on them to win this, and being undefeated at home so far, and with Wimbledon losing 2 out of 3 away games, I can see them doing it.

Plymouth vs Stockport - Draw
Plymouth have not convinced me at all with their start to the season, however, they changed my mind with the deadline day signing of Owen Dale from Oxford on loan. This will inject some much needed pace and directness into their side and I can see them putting up a better performance against a Stockport side in half decent form. I’m going for a nervy draw.

Barnet vs Shrewsbury - Home
I’m still backing Barnet to come good this year and I will die on that hill. You don’t just go from a statistically unbelievable team to a poor one in one summer, even if they are in a higher league. I think this will be a home win, and I’m going to stick my neck out and say a big one at that!

Forest Green vs Hartlepool - Draw
I’m not going to pretend to be an expert of the National League, and these picks are very much based on feeling than reason. I always like Hartlepool though, so hoping they can scrape a draw for me away at Forest Green.

Buxton vs Oxford City - Home
I’m even less of an expert on the leagues below the National League, however being an Oxford United fan I do keep an eye out on the City results, and aside from a 5-0 battering of Alfreton Town last week, they haven’t been all that good at the start of the season, so I’m going for a Buxton win, although wouldn’t mind too much if I was proven wrong.

Bromley vs Gillingham (BIG BET) - Home
As for probably all my picks this week, I really think this game could go either way. I’m only predicting a home win because I think Bromley have done nearly as well with a more difficult start to the season. And of course the home advantage.

Bolton vs AFC Wimbledon - Home
Even though Bolton’s run of draws helped me out last week, I’m really hoping they can get their first league win in 5. I think they have a good chance of doing so at home against a struggling Wimbledon side.

Port Vale vs Leyton Orient - Away
I’m hoping recent away wins at Plymouth and Peterborough may be enough of confidence boost for Leyton Orient to pick up another away win at Port Vale. A team who are yet to register a win in the league this season.

Newport vs Bristol Rovers - Away
Surely beating Grimsby, killer of has-been giants, would’ve been a massive confidence boost for Bristol Rovers. I’m hoping they can pick up an away win at Newport, who have suffered 5 losses in a row in all competitions.

Harrogate vs Crawley - Home
Harrogate have had a win, loss and draw at home already this season, so really anything can happen. I’ve chosen a home win, mainly due to how awful Crawley’s start to the season has been. I hope I am right!

Forest Green vs Hartlepool - Draw
I was tempted to put a Forest Green home win, with them having the strongest start and being league leaders. That was until I realised that Hartlepool have only conceded 2 goals this season. I hope my change to a draw doesn’t come back to haunt me.

Bromley vs Gillingham (BIG BET) - Home
And we start the joys of the lower league special with two unbeaten teams in League 2. Gillingham top of the league visiting third place Bromley for our big bet of the weekend. As my record so far with these big bets has gone (0/3) I'm hoping to finally change this with Bromley to win at home (probably means the Gills will win 3-0). There really isn't a great deal that separates these two when you look at the stats this is more of a hunch that Bromley can get the win.

Newport vs Bristol Rovers - Away
Newport’s run of form is nearly as bad as my picks so far in Tipple. Currently losing 4 league games on the bounce and with Bristol Rovers visiting this weekend I think it will be 5 games in a row. Rovers have started to find their form winning the previous two league fixtures. I'm looking at the goals already scored and conceded by these teams this game shouldn't be ending 0-0.

Rotherham vs Exeter - Away
Exeter having a solid 3-0 against Peterborough last weekend are travelling to Rotherham United, who last won on the opening day of the season. Rotherham have only picked up 1 point in their last 4 and are sitting 19th in the league. Exeter on the other hand have won 3 and lost 3 sitting 11th in the league. I'm hoping Rotherham carry on the poor form and Exeter can come away with the 3pts.

Plymouth vs Stockport - Away
Stockport are having a good start to the season sitting just out of the play offs with 11pts from 6 and having only been beaten once so far. Plymouth still haven't got over what happened last season, no idea what is going on there. I thought they turned a corner when they got their first win of the season against Blackpool but then to lose 4-0 to Cardiff the following weekend, they have still got so much to do at the club. With Stockport visiting this weekend I don't see it getting easier for them.

Scunthorpe vs Wealdstone
Now these are games you love to see, Scunthorpe promoted last season from the National League North, against Wealdstone who flirted with relegation last season finishing 1pt above the drop. Both teams this season are in the Top 7 with Wealdstone winning 4 and losing 3, and Scunthorpe currently unbeaten so far winning 3 and drawing 2. I'm going with the home side to grab the three points this weekend.

Chesham vs Bath City - Home
Only one point splits these two, Chesham having a slightly better start to the season. There's not a lot between them, but with Bath City having the number one goalkeeper and their second-choice keeper sent off both with straight red cards against Dorking Wanderers last weekend, they then went on to lose their midweek game 4-0 at home. Chesham must be favourites going into this game now.
