TWITS PICKS GW7: Unity In The Big Bet

A lucky escape for one of us last week, saved from the Hall of Shame in the 93rd minute, but we all managed to get double digit points for the first time. Can we start calling ourselves experts again now?

In this week’s edition, we review a topsy turvy Gameweek 6 and look ahead to our Gameweek 7 picks, where we are all on the same page for the Big Bet it seems.

Right well, second double points week in a row so can’t complain. If Arsenal could actually play against the bigger teams it would have been a lot better, but we’re getting there. Late goals from Southampton and Cardiff saved me from -6 points as well so I will very much take that! All in all, a fairly standard week, and I’ll be wanting to do better than that more often if I want to catch Schoey, cannot believe he was saved by a late Arsenal goal from getting a -10, absolute joke. And Will, well… not much else to say really, better week than me but still without a big bet win and still 13 points below me.

Schoey: 10 points

Picks
Arsenal 1-1 Manchester City (BIG BET) - Draw (10pts)
Hull City 3-1 Southampton - Draw (0pts)
Doncaster 1-2 AFC Wimbledon - Home (0pts)
Salford 3-2 Swindon - Away (0pts)
Bournemouth 0-0 Newcastle - Home (0pts)
Millwall 1-0 Watford - Draw (0pts)

A week to forget for me. A last minute equaliser from Arsenal in the big bet essentially saved me 20 points! Meaning I finished the week with 10 rather than -10, as none of my other predictions came through. I’ll need to buck up my ideas if I want to stay clear of Kieran and Will. Still a long way off worrying about that though to be fair.

Possibly the slowest free kick goal I have ever seen stopped me from getting an extra 5 points on Monday night, as Watford’s goalkeeper couldn’t stop a dink into the middle of his goal… To follow that up, Benda, in the Millwall goal, made an unreal save with his foot in the dying moments of the game to stop Watford from equalising. Hopefully my luck changes a bit for this weekend.

Will: 12 points

Picks
Arsenal 1-1 Manchester City (BIG BET) - Away (0pts)
Birmingham 1-0 Swansea - Home (3pts)
West Ham 1-2 Crystal Palace - Away (4pts)
Blackburn P-P Ipswich - Away (2pts)
Cardiff 1-3 Bradford - Home (0pts)
Millwall 1-0 Watford - Home (3pts)

Well for the first time this season all the TWITs have hit double digits in GW7. Well done us, only took 7 weeks but we finally got there. Schoey had to be saved on the big bet, with a late equaliser to snatch the 10 points… so happy for him.

I also want to thank the rain at Blackburn which made the ref abandoned the match with 10 minutes to play, great decision. 12 points for GW6 and could this be a turning point for me?

Gameweek 7 Picks

Kieran

Coventry vs Birmingham (BIG BET) - Home
How Coventry have only scored 1 in the last 2 games I really do not know. A total of 39 shots, with one single goal. Christ. Surely they know this can’t go on and against Birmingham at home they will be desperate to get the win. The blues have been in shaky form of late, and although getting the win against Swansea last week, they didn’t really look comfortable, I’m going for a Coventry win, and god help Schoey if it doesn’t come through.

Chelsea vs Brighton - Home
Going for the standard big name home win. I know it’s not exactly the most analytical or new-age approach, but I just have a feeling this is going to be one of those games where no matter what they do, Brighton will somehow come out on the losing end. Not prepared to risk a Heavy Defeat Penalty picking any other way.

Luton vs Doncaster - Home
Luton really haven’t been up to standard yet this season, after starting very well they’ve dropped off. But with the squad they have, surely it’s only a matter of time before they go on a winning run? They are also odds on favourites.

Northampton vs Bolton - Away
With only 1 loss to their name, Bolton are starting to show signs of being a real force in this league, and are scoring for fun lately. I think they will have too much for an admittedly in form Northampton.

Wigan vs Cardiff - Away
They let me down big time last week at home to Bradford, but I’m prepared to give one more chance to the Bluebirds, especially with Wigan being hammered by Bolton last weekend.

Crawley vs Barrow - Draw
Got to put at least one draw in each week, otherwise it’s just boring. I’m going for Crawley and Barrow, who I think would both be pretty content with a draw considering their starts to the season.

Schoey

Coventry vs Birmingham (BIG BET) - Home
Well, it was only going to be a matter of time before the mighty Sky Blues were put in a big bet wasn’t it? And of course I am backing Coventry to win this one. Last time out at home against Norwich I watched the most one-sided 1-1 draw I’ve ever seen. We’ve now gone two games only scoring 1 goal, after scoring 14 in the previous 3 league games. So the lads will be very keen to get those goals flowing again.

As for Brum they haven’t been quite as amazing as people predicted they would be, have they? Turns out spending a shed load of money doesn’t instantly make you better than everybody else..

Leeds vs Bournemouth - Away
Both of these sides have had a great start to the season in comparison to what may have been expected of them. I just think Bournemouth have had a more tough start and have been the more impressive of the two. Only losing away at the prem champions Liverpool on the opening day of the season. Also Leeds have only won once in their last 5 games in all comps.

Nottingham Forest vs Sunderland - Draw
The fact I’m already backing anything but a Sunderland loss this early in the season is really quite upsetting for me. Forest haven’t had a great start and Sunderland just can’t lose recently! If anything I’d actually be more worried they could go on to win this game. I just need to hope big Ange pulls his finger out.. even if I don’t rate him very highly.

Mansfield vs Rotherham - Home
Going off of recent form, this looks a risky game to predict either way. But Mansfield have gained 7 points from 4 games at home. And more importantly Rotherham have only scored once and are yet to have earned a single point away from home. I’m hoping Rotherham’s away form will stay the same this weekend.

Burton vs Plymouth - Away
Fairly straight forward pick this one. I see Plymouth as a side who have started the season slowly and are underperforming at the moment. Whereas Burton are rock bottom and I wouldn’t really expect much more from them.

Swindon vs Bromley - Home
Typically when I decided to finally back Swindon last week, they let me down away at Salford. But it was still a close game finishing 3-2. Previous to this their form had been so good, I think expect them to win at home against Bromley. Hopefully.

Will

Coventry vs Birmingham (BIG BET) - Home
I’m really looking forward to this one, and it’s lining up to be a great spectacle. Both teams will be coming in to this fired up knowing 3 points dropped here could be crucial come May. I’m only slightly favouriting Coventry here to clinch the win. Mainly due to being the home side but also after last week showing against Norwich they have to be finding the back of the net this week right?

Chelsea vs Brighton - Home
After probably the worst game of football I’ve watched in a long time, very much a league two standard of game in Manchester, Chelsea will be looking to get back to winning ways at home.

Maresca made 8 changes on Tuesday against Lincoln. This gave crucial recovery time to most of the first team and will have no excuses if they come away with nothing but a win on Saturday

Burton vs Plymouth - Away
The way Plymouth are going at the moment, they’re starting to show some quality. Losing to Peterborough 1-0 at home last weekend came as a surprise, they managed to dominate the game with 20 shots but just couldn’t make them count. Burton on the other hand are finding it hard, sitting rock bottom of the league picking up 1 point from their last 5 games.

Wigan vs Cardiff - Away
Cardiff had a shocker last weekend to lose 3-1 to Bradford and the fact they went 3-0 down at home was never on the cards. I’m backing them to bounce back this weekend after a bit of a reality check that League One isn’t going to be plain sailing for them.

Fleetwood vs Colchester - Draw
Both sides having similar starts to the season. With each team looking at this match as winnable. Both sides took the lead in their games last weekend but just couldn’t find a way to see the game out with Colchester drawing to Bristol and Fleetwood losing 2-1 to Cambridge. It’s going to be an edgy affair that I think will finish all level.

Swindon vs Bromley - Home
Swindon lost away to Salford last weekend but in that played alright possibly could have won the game with the chances they created. With Bromley visiting this weekend I can see them unfortunately getting back to winning ways.
