TWITS Picks: We’re Back!
We’re back for another season of Tipple with This Week In Tipple Sports, the weekly blog where we run through Kieran, Will and Schoey’s picks for the upcoming week, and review the successes, or failures (mostly failures), of the week before.
It’s going to be another exciting season and with so many new people joining Tipple it’s safe to say that the top 50 Global placement for Will is going to be much harder to match. Read on for our first Gameweek’s picks…

BOLTON VS PRESTON (3 Draws)
Kieran (Draw): I mean to be honest I have wimped out a little here, the draw on the Big Bet for those of you new to tipple is quite a popular pick due to the maximum points available and the closeness of the games making it almost impossible to decide usually. However, it can backfire, many a Big Bet have seen 3 or 4 goal differences either way, so this can sometimes be a dangerous play. I am hoping for a big starting week though, I can’t be the creator of Tipple and be shit at the game forever…surely?
Schoey (Draw): Newly promoted Bolton will be keen to start strong and try their best not to concede at home. As home form will decide their fate this season in my opinion. Preston have made a couple of solid signings but a win away here will be a pretty tough ask!
Will (Draw): Newly promoted Bolton taking on Preston to start the season off. Bolton only lost twice last season at home, this kind of form will need to be tapped into this season to ensure their safety. Preston’s form at the end of last season really did fall off. Heckingbottom has strengthened in areas but will be extremely disappointed that Stanley Mills won’t be joining them until the new year. This will be a close affair and I would like to start the season with maximum points on the big bet so I’m backing the draw.
Where We Clash
YORK CITY VS BRISTOL ROVERS (2 Draws, 1 Away)
Kieran (Away): Right I’m sorry but, you can say all the stats in the world about the National League and how good York were and blah blah blah, but Barnet did pretty much the same the season before and lost at home to Fleetwood on opening day. Rovers have been tipped by many to win the league this year, I’m pretty confident on this one. I’ll even say 3-1 Rovers.
Schoey (Draw): York only lost 4 times through 46 games last season, smashing the national league with 108pts. Going away to them on the first game of the season will be a tough ask! Although Rovers did get relegated, they actually finished last season strong going unbeaten in their last 9 games. Since then they have strengthened their squad so are fancied to do well this season! If York weren’t the home side it may be a different story, but I’ve gone for a draw here.
Will (Draw): York City’s return back to the EFL after 10 seasons of playing National league/National league North football. The team and the Fans are going to be right up for this, i won’t be surprised if they Win 2-0. I will say though Rovers have strengthened their squad this summer. Firmly on the fence to grab the most points out of this fixture.
Going It Alone
KIERAN
Plymouth vs Stockport (Draw): I think Plymouth will do excellent this season, and I can really see them going up, even possibly making a title charge. I just think it might take a few games to properly kick into gear and Stockport are no mean feat. I think this match might be a struggle, with a last minute equaliser on the cards.
Charlton vs Derby (Home): This is probably the one I’m most unsure on to be honest, Derby do look decent this season I just hope that home atmosphere of the opening game will be enough to see Charlton through.
SCHOEY
Norwich vs West Brom (Home): Norwich finished last season pretty strong and I expect them to continue that after making a couple of pretty strong signings, Andre Brooks being one of them. West Brom on the other hand looked at their worst in years last season. I could be wrong but with a lot of outgoings I can’t see them lighting the league a lite this season.
Sheffield Utd vs Birmingham (Away): I originally had a draw for this fixture but, Sheff Utd have lost quality in Brooks and Hamer. Not to mention they struggled last season anyway and the fans aren’t happy. I know it doesn’t mean much but Brom have had a very strong preseason and beat Swansea away in the league cup last week.
WILL
Leyton Orient vs Sheffield Weds (Away): The return of Barry Bannan.
Blackpool vs Wycombe (Home): Chairs boys will enjoy the beach and that’s about it.
