TWITS Picks: We’re Crap!

We’re back crap!! What an awful week to start the season, none of us even managed to get double figures. It could have been a lot worse though, at least we didn’t get -10’s.

Below we go through our GW2 picks, let’s hope for a MUCH better week…

Big Bet

Lincoln vs Portsmouth (2 Home, 1 Away)

Kieran (Home): I think with this one Lincoln’s home atmosphere, first game back in the second tier in decades, after a pretty decent performance against promotion favourites away from home, is going to be a bit too much for Pompey. I think so much so, that this could even be a heavy defeat, which is why I’ve gone with the home team. Come on you Imps!

Schoey (Home): I do think Portsmouth will do well to stay up this season. Being comfortably beaten by QPR at home is not the start they needed. League 1 winners Lincoln will be keen to get their first points on the board, after holding one of the leagues favourites in Boro to a draw until the 91st minute last weekend.

Will (Away): Lincoln had their big day out last week but ultimately Boro’s quality showed, especially in the second half. The Imps played some good football and defended well, but this is a game their fans will have targeted as a must-win if they want to stay up. Pompey have been in this position before, knowing these are the games you need to win if you want to stay up. I think they’ll handle the pressure better and have enough quality to come away with the result.

Where We Clash

Ipswich vs Sunderland (1 Draws, 1 Away)

Kieran (Draw): Going for the promoted team in their first home game wanting to prove something to their fans, granted I might be putting a bit too much faith in promoted teams at home but surely one of them has to come off!

Schoey (Draw): I think Sunderland will struggle once the extra European games start. Until then I would be surprised if they were much worse than how they finished last season.

Going It Alone

KIERAN

Rotherham vs York (Draw): Rotherham are tipped by some to struggle this year and with York seemingly being a bit of a power team coming up, this might be a difficult one but I think they can take a point at home and get me the full 5.

MK Dons vs Huddersfield (Home): MK impressed me against Oxford (Granted we are crap but still…), and I think they are going to go well this year and possibly even make play-offs. Haven’t seen too much of Huddersfield pre-season or transfer wise but I think MK are going to outperform them here.

Wrexham vs Watford (Home): Wrexham surely make playoffs this year, especially with the expansion. I think they’ve made some pretty decent signings of late and will have too much for Watford, who must be due a manager sacking soon? What’s he been in 3 months now?

SCHOEY

Crewe vs Northampton (Home): Norwich finished last season pretty strong and I expect them to continue that after making a couple of pretty strong signings, Andre Brooks being one of them. West Brom on the other hand looked at their worst in years last season. I could be wrong but with a lot of outgoings I can’t see them lighting the league a lite this season.

Swansea vs Sheffield Utd (Home): I originally had a draw for this fixture but, Sheff Utd have lost quality in Brooks and Hamer. Not to mention they struggled last season anyway and the fans aren’t happy. I know it doesn’t mean much but Brom have had a very strong preseason and beat Swansea away in the league cup last week.

West Brom vs Burnley (Away): Looking at form including preseason, this looks like a terrible pick. But West Brom were absolutely peppered by Norwich and only won with an illegal goal. Whereas Burnley were by far the better side against West Ham, they just couldn’t finish their dinner. I also think Zian Flemming could be the best player in the Championship.

WILL

Colchester vs Oldham (Draw): This is more of a gut feeling on this one I’m going for a draw. Just looks like a 0-0 written all over it.

Bromley vs Cambridge (Home): Bromley started strong with a win last weekend against Barnsley. Can’t say the Bromley strike knew too much about it but great reaction to Knick the 1-0 away to start the season.

Brentford vs Tottenham (Away): I can imagine this will be on many fans predictions this week, Spurs to win away. They’ve finally spent some money and it looks to be in the right places with a good manager in charge. Brentford won’t be a complete push over but Spurs definitely look to have a bit about them coming into the new season.
